Literacy teaching and learning in the COVID-19 crisis and beyond

International Literacy Day has been celebrated on 8 September since 1966, when it was proclaimed as such by UNESCO.

This year, the focus will be literacy teaching and learning in the COVID-19 crisis and beyond. The recent coronavirus crisis has been a powerful reminder of the gap between policy discourse and reality. A gap that already existed in the pre-COVID-19 era and which negatively affects the learning of youth and adults who have no or low literacy skills and who, therefore, tend to face multiple disadvantages.

On this day in Slovenia, the national ministerial consultation session on reading culture and reading literacy will take place under the title of Reading as a Value? and which will mark the official beginning of the third National Month of Reading Together 2020.
